Art fairs power much of the current art market sales; Art Basel/UBS report, sales from these events comprised 40 percent of dealers’ total haul in 2019. So, when fairs stopped in Spring of 2020, galleries scrambled for alternatives like social media, art sales platforms, online viewing rooms and virtual fairs.
Since then, we’ve realized there’s nothing like the real thing when it comes to sparking sales, relationships and conversations. As we come into the fall art fair schedule, we proceed with a good gathering of in persons shows for the rest of this year. But they won’t necessarily look like the crowded, convention center-dwelling affairs we’re used to—or take place on a normal schedule.
